What is the Youth Action Committee?
The Youth Action Committee was formed as a part of the United Way Volunteer Center of Portage County to offer youth better connections to making a difference and volunteering. Youth need to be heard and involved in what goes on in our community! YAC works to provide meaningful opportunities that offer teens the ability to have their voices heard and tools to impact the people, environment, and development here. YAC works to enhance the overall value of youth and to partner with adults in creating a healthy and strong community through volunteer efforts. Each month the Youth Action Committee chooses a community topic/issue to learn about and then organizes a volunteer project that teens across Portage County are invited to be involved in. Check out our upcoming events and join YAC in having fun while making a difference!
Why should I join YAC?
Have you ever felt that adults don't value youth and our opinions? Would you like to have more of a say in what goes on in our community? Do you want to create positive ACTION towards a goal for our community? If so, the Youth Action Committee is just for you! We are always looking for new youth in grades 7-13 to get involved with our committee and or projects so if this sounds good to you - COME JOIN US! Just fill out a YAC application or drop in at our next meeting. Too busy for YAC?
YAC understands that there are tons of things that we are busy with through school, family, friends, work etc. YAC asks that members and other teens involved participate as regularly as possible but does not have mandatory attendance requirements. So if you have some extra time in the fall but not in the spring...that's okay, you're more than welcome to join us when you can. Adults - partner with YAC!
Are you interested in working with teen volunteers at your organization? YAC can train you to better understand teenagers, and develop/promote teenager appropriate opportunites with your organization!
